You just got a new job. You are so happy to start a new chapter in your life. Everything is going right for you. What if I told you that something you didn't sign up for. Could possibly affect you as well.

I am talking about harassment in the workplace.

Harassment in the workplace is more common than what you think. That is the sad truth. When people hear harassment. Today's article talks about why people don't speak up when they see harassment. Also, how harassment can affect behavior. lastly what is the most the common harassment people experience. In their daily working lives

I have sadly experienced harassment in the workplace. It is not a fun time. The constant comments I would get from customers was absolutely DISGUSTING! I have heard things from customers like. "You look good", "When do you get off work so I can spend time with you". Just things that employees should not be hearing.

The constant demands also the bosses would expect me to do were not fun.

It would be work that would require a two-man job. But when I would not have it done on time. I would get yelled at. When I would try and state my case it was always. "I DO NOT CARE SHOULD HAVE DONE IT ON TIME". It would just make for a bad environment. It was not just me that experienced it there sadly.

Now I understand that bosses want to see the best out of their employees. But some people don't work like that. So, you have to adjust to that as a boss.

When it comes to co-workers not reporting this. I always wonder why people refuse to speak up. Wouldn't you want to help out your fellow co-workers? Research under The Vowxel.com Reporting Gap  .  States that over 60% of coworkers believe that if they report it nothing will happen. I understand that they don't want to become part of the problem. Or are just scared to report it. But if you really like that co-worker.

Would you not want to keep them safe?

Do you want a healthy working environment and not an inappropriate working environment?

People could be scared to say something and that is understandable. But if you do not say something and another employee says something. They namedrop you. You could possibly lose your job. Something to keep in mind.

In the peer reviewed journal there was survey conducted. They interviewed 77 teachers and had them do an online survey. On if they have experienced harassment in their workplace. The findings found out that. Work related harassments are very common. The fact that it is common in a school environment bothers me.

My mother is a teacher helper and has been for the last couple years. She has told me countless times that this has happened multiple times to her. Students being disrespectful, older staff members making weird comments. Just in general making teachers uncomfortable.

If this keeps happening teachers will stop caring how they teach. The kids in the world. Teachers will start quitting their jobs.

    Then what happens?

There is only so many substitute teachers to go around. If it keeps happening. No student will get the right education and then us as a society is failing because. Our youth cannot get the simple knowledge of a regular human being.

Teachers can be strict sometimes and that can be true. But it is the same thing with bosses. They want to see you succeed. Sometimes it has to be in aggressive tone to really get it through your head.

There can be different versions of harassment experience in a workplace. On the website titled 7 Types of Workplace Harrasment explained.  It states that the most common harassment is verbal harassment. A study from that article states more than 60% of workers have seen or experienced verbal harassment.

There are different ways people can be verbally harassed. People calling co-workers bad names, Inappropriate language, yelling when someone is trying to do their job. Those are just some to name a few. If I am a worker and get verbally harassed. I'm not going to want to work there for long.

As I said prior, I have gotten verbally harassed at my job. It is not fun. I am surprised I have lasted as long as I had. Verbal harassment makes for a bad working place. It hurts Morale, Productivity, and also you will lose employees. This all ties into the teachers losing their jobs. You cannot lose essential workers. You can fail as a society cause those essential workers. Will not be there when you need the help.

Taking away from this article. I hope there is a good understanding of how common workplace harassment can be. Harassment can come in different forms, Harassment can affect behaviors, and also verbal harassment is the most common harassment. When you see harassment, PLEASE SPEAK UP because. If you don't and it is a serious matter. You can lose your job, and you don't want to lose your job. Over something you can speak up on. It makes for a healthy environment. You co-worker will thank you.

What is stopping you from reporting harassment?

    SPEAK UP PEOPLE!
