Workplace Harassment Is Far Too Common: Americans Can Not Afford to Ignore It Any Longer

When Americans start their jobs anywhere. They get told the same thing from their bosses and co-workers alike. "Harassment does not happen here". "We have strict rules that will not let people harass you". But what if I told you that even if it it's said from higherups. Millions of workers in this country are still experiencing harassment in the workplace. Workplace harassment is still a big issue in today's society. That is sadly is a behind the scenes issue for many places of work.

Even if companies are taking more precautions to address this major issue. It happens in almost every job title you can think of. Office jobs, Government officials, and even retail workers are some of the few that experience harassment. Even if sexual harassment is seen as the most popular form of harassment. But discrimination and bullying are also some other forms of harassment that takes place in our country.

In the article published by Forbes . A 2026 study that included healthcare workers and retail workers In the United States stated that. " 4 out of ten workers report witnessing harassment in the past 5 years. Also "21% of employees have been direct targets". Healthcare workers are a cornerstone for our country. For us to run as a country correctly. We need to treat healthcare workers with the upmost respect. They are the people you call when you are sick. But also, when you are in danger and possibly dying. If they keep getting harassed by coworkers and people, they are helping. They will quit their jobs. Then who else who is going to come in and possibly save our lives.

On a slight positive note. The same Forbes article also stated that "77% of organizations said they place an extremely high priority on preventing harassment". But what about the other 23% of organizations that took place in that survey. Really concerning with how protecting your employees. Should be company's number one policy. So, the companies do not get into legal trouble. Also, with the possibility of losing your employees.

It also comes down to leadership from the company and bosses alike. If they will not be strict enough with. Enforcing policies and putting their foot down. Their employees will be more inclined to harass their coworkers because. The bosses will be sadly lenient with what they are told. but also, how they take the correct precautions to either fire that employee. Or not to fire that employee.

In the peer reviewed journal there was a survey that was conducted. The survey founded that "People that worked in state/federal government jobs reported seeing people getting harassed". A statement like that is concerning. Considering that those people have power to change our society with rules and regulations. But also, if society is struggling and need the government help. For instance, if taxes become too out of control and people have to pay more out of pocket. They need government to control that. But the government cannot because they will have no one working for them. Government controls our country. So, keeping those government officials. Is detrimental to a functioning country.

People say that maybe if the workers were doing a good job and did their work. This so-called harassment would not be present. But in a society that has changed over the past couple years. Bosses have to cater to that. People can also make the argument that. Respect is earned. Not respect should be given. Which can be true to an extent. Respect is something that should be earned. But on the other side. Employees might have bosses were. No matter how good they did. The boss will still yell or still have something to say.

In an article by The Guardian. Republican house speaker Mike Johnson stated that. "He was open to tightening rules and punishment on workplace harassment. Also, stating his 2 daughters have jobs that are linked to the government. Even people in the government are saying it is common and. We must put our foot down to stop this from happening.

When every American shows up to their jobs. They deserve to be in a space where they should not be judged. It all comes down to respecting the code of conduct. These companies implement when Americans first get their jobs. One of the strengths in our country is. Being able to have strong work ethics. Bosses that can create cultures with employees and give them respect. Will only benefit the employees and give that company a good representation. We must live in a society where employers must put the employees first. For ultimate satisfaction

We know as people living in this country. The dream of limiting workplace harassment can be possible. But with personal accountability and all of us working together. On speaking up when you see harassment. But also, not letting it affect you. We can see our country continue to thrive into the country it once was.
