Are Trump's "ICE Agent Snowflakes" Just Straight Evil?
After doing the research, I sure think so.
I've been keeping an eye on the news the past couple years, and it just feels like a total sh*tstorm. From the moment that Trump stepped into office, the government crackdown on illegal immigration has increased to a level never seen before. ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for those who feel they've been living under a rock) under the Trump administration has been downright cruel to immigrants in the U.S. This has been blindingly obvious, and has been shown to us through their separation of families, their treatment of detainees, and the numerous murders (yes, murders) various agents have committed with little to no consequence.
Considering ICE's history of wrongfully deporting an American citizen due to an "administrative error", it's totally understandable that people of the same ethnic background as those being targeted with deportations are living in fear currently. Hell, even my own mom (who's from Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory) has been scared that one day an ICE agent is going to detain her on suspicion that she's an illegal immigrant. This is genuinely ABSURD.
But still, my family's been one of the lucky ones. Some families have been torn apart, not knowing when, or even if they can reunite. An example of this is the deportation of Antonio Laverde. He's a father of 3 who migrated with his family to the U.S. in 2022, looking for a better life for his family. His wife and kids were able to get visas, but he wasn't as lucky. After being detained by federal agents in another governmental slip-up (a massive understatement if you ask me), he was held in a detention center with a documented history of cruelty. After three months of being held there, he was deported to Nicaragua.
On the topic of inhumane detention centers, the treatment of detainees has crossed into the territory of blatant evil. Fueled by either cruelty or just a simple lack of care, enforcement agents have treated inmates like they're straight trash. In an ACLU article, the writer details how a teenager had his testicles crushed and tooth broken by officers in an immigration detention center. And the worst part is, this isn't even the first instance of cruelty at the hands of officers.
The beatings and generally harsh treatment done by these officers doesn't stop at serious injuries. At the Fort Bliss ICE detention center, officers even allegedly killed a detainee. The victim's name was Geraldo Lunas Campos, and he had been murdered by means of asphyxiation. Allegedly, he was attempting to commit suicide, and the officers felt that the best means of action to help him was physically restraining him to the point of death. You can't even make this stuff up.
Even if he came to this country illegally, and was resisting the staff's intervention, he didn't deserve to die. He was a man trapped in a horribly maintained detention center, and if he felt that he was pushed to the point of attempting suicide, then that speaks to how awful the conditions of the place were. It doesn't matter how an individual entered a country, especially when they're locked up, beaten, and killed for doing it "the wrong way". It's honestly baffling to me how thinking that people don't deserve to be beaten and killed is a "woke" take.
What makes this even worse is that this isn't the first murder done by ICE agents. In the past year, two US citizens were killed by ICE agents, and those are only two that I'm going to be talking about. Renée Good and Alex Pretti were both murdered in Minneapolis by ICE agents (in situations where they posed absolutely NO grave danger to the officers). The Trump administration has tried to say that both of the victims were terrorists that wanted to kill ICE agents. However, congressman Robert Garcia released a report stating that Trump just straight up lied. Trump simply jeopardizes the legitimacy of legal statements, and is just a distrustful individual.
This administration has been blatantly evil. Like scary, cackling monster (that also eats babies for breakfast) level evil. People that come to this country seeking a better home for themselves and their family deserve better. It's understandable that the government wants to keep our country safe, but it's just been the opposite. We need to help people immigrating to our nation, and protect them from the terrors of ICE (or Incredibly Cruel and Evil as I like to say). We should be the land of the free and the home of the brave, not the land of the free (for select individuals) and the home of the brave (officers who kill people).
